A few weeks ago, actress and mom Melissa Joan Hart hosted our Over the Moon shower, her fourth shower with us! We were so excited to hear her thoughts on working with us to show her gratitude to military families. And now we’re thrilled to share them with you!

What inspired you to get involved with Operation Shower?
When I was first told about the mission of Operation Shower I was all in right away. I know how difficult it is to be pregnant but I couldn’t imagine how incredibly tough that could be if my spouse was in harm’s way and I was home alone going through those changes by myself. I wanted to give back to the families that sacrifice so much to protect our country and our freedoms.

How many showers have you hosted?
I have hosted four in three years—two in NJ, one in LA and one in NY.

What has kept you coming back?
The smiles of the expectant moms and the newborn babies that sometimes come along. Most of the time the women are extremely stoic and unemotional while I’m in tears. It’s a real wake up call to see people dealing with tough situations during emotional times in their lives and holding it all together on the homefront.

What was your favorite part of the Over the Moon Shower?
It was a pleasure to meet the Command Sergeant Major Patrick Alston and his wife. But the real thrill was introducing my boys to the moms and babies and having them help out. The moms were so appreciative and excited about their special day and I hope they enjoyed it as much as I did.

What has being a part of Operation Shower meant to you?
It’s been a great way for me to relate to other moms and try to do a little something to bring a smile to their faces as they go through this exciting but scary time in their lives.

If you could speak to all of our country’s military moms and moms-to-be today, what would you want to say?
You are not alone! You are loved and respected and the entire nation thanks you for the sacrifices you and your family make for our freedoms.
