AbbyA little background about yourself and/or your company.

Hi, I’m Abigail, owner and creative director of paper & Cake. After planning, and decorating my daughter’s first birthday (in 2003), I realized what the world was missing… originally designed, adorably themed, handmade partyware.

Since our launch in 2008, all of our party kits have been designed, by me, to give buyers something unique and special that they, too, can put their own creative stamp on. I create my own illustrations – rather than use clip-art or existing characters – for each and every theme. Color schemes and typography are then carefully chosen as an integral part to the overall look.

paper & Cake’s integrated blog offers party inspiration, tips & tricks, recipes, and new party set reveals every month!

When did you first start working with/giving to Operation Shower?

In 2010, Operation Shower contacted paper & Cake to work with them on a set of printable decorations for potential donors to throw their own fundraiser event. I designed a cute set, and have been working with them ever since!

Why did you chose Operation Shower as a way of giving back?

The first time I was able to volunteer at an actual Operation Shower event, it sealed the deal. The experience of being there, surrounded by 40 moms-to-be, hearing their stories, seeing their reaction to it all, touched my heart like nothing before. I’ll be volunteering until there isn’t a need for Operation Shower any more.

What does giving back to military families through Operation Shower mean to you/your company?

I have had the honor of designing the graphics for 22 showers over the past 6 years. Now, I may not have connections with influential donors or big Hollywood names for publicity, or with baby product manufacturers, but what I do have is the ability to design the artwork to make a shower pretty and memorable and special, for 40 moms-to-be at a time. Being able to put my creativity to work for Operation Shower means the world to me.

What has been one of your favorite memories of working with Operation Shower?

I have personally attended 17 showers, and will be traveling soon for. my 18th Operation Shower. I have SO many memories and stories, but my favorite thing by far is the guests. All of those moms-to-be are cute and sweet and nervous and grateful – I just can’t get enough!

If you could say one thing to military moms and families, what would it be?

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for your service and your sacrifice.
