10th Anniversary Spotlight: Volunteer Cheryl Clemons

Operation Shower Volunteer

A little background about yourself.

I am a married mother of 2 adult children. I am a property manager at a tax credit property, which houses military personnel.  I have been married for 21 years; my husband is a self employed contractor. My son is in the Army and stationed at Fort Carson, CO.  My daughter is in her second year of college for Sports, Entertainment and Event Planning.  My hobbies included knitting and crocheting.

When did you first start volunteering with Operation Shower?

Our first shower was in Summer Fun, Baby in July 2013 at Fort Drum.

Why did you choose Operation Shower as a way of giving back?

My  daughter, Makenzie, is the one who found out about Operation Shower coming to our area.  I thought it would be something that Makenzie and I could do together.  Besides, who doesn’t love a baby shower? As a property manager, I work with military families and see first hand how hard deployments are on them.  We love to volunteer at the showers and we see how hard the staff works to make a perfect day for the military families. I have donated 160 baby hats to Operation Shower.

What has been one of your favorite memories of volunteering with Operation Shower?

The shower at Fenway Park was one of my favorite memories.

If you could say one thing to military moms and families, what would it be?

We appreciate the families for their sacrifice when 1 or both of the parents are military.

How many showers have you attended?

We have volunteered at 3 showers.

Anything additional you would like to add?

I look forward to volunteering at the showers and seeing the looks on the mothers’ faces when they enter the room because they have no idea what is going to happen to them. The moms are so appreciative for what is given to them.
