Operation Shower Volunteer
A little background about yourself.
My name is Sandra Gbotoe and I am a Special Needs Pre-K Teacher in the Duval County Public School in Jacksonville, FL. I’m currently in school completing my degree majoring in Early Childhood Education/Child Care Management.
When did you first start volunteering with Operation Shower?
My first time volunteering for Operation Shower was The Barclays, New Jersey 2013.
Why did you choose Operation Shower as a way of giving back?
One day I was on Facebook and came across Operation Shower on my newsfeed and saw all of the beautiful pictures of a recent Shower they did. I love serving and helping others, so I decided to Google the organization and see if they had any opportunities to volunteer. I wanted to make an impact and it was rewarding EVERY time I met the mommies, as well as the babies, during each shower.
What does giving back to military families through Operation Shower mean to you?
During my first volunteer experience (2013) my sister and her husband were also in the U.S. Army and were expecting their first child. So I have military in my family and (see) how many sacrifices they make for their families during deployment. When I saw this organization, I thought of my sister and her family and saw this as an awesome opportunity to volunteer and give back.
What has been one of your favorite memories of volunteering with Operation Shower?
One of my favorite memories of volunteering was meeting and greeting the mommies and hearing each unique story as well as holding and talking to babies! :0)

This year makes 6 showers that I have attended so far!

I am currently in the process of starting my own non-profit organization called “Operation Blessing” in Jacksonville, FL serving families and providing resources and services.
