An event at the iconic Lambeau Field stadium was not only a dream trip for the Operation Shower team but a chance to help 200 military families across the country. As part of the B is for Baby Box program, we “packed” up and headed to Wisconsin to team up with the Ladies of Lambeau, an inclusive group of women connected to the Green Bay Packers organization. Led by Laurie Murphy, wife of Packers President/CEO Mark Murphy, the 175 + volunteers came together to assemble everything that a new mom could want. From sewing a personalized onesie, to wrapping baby books, to writing a handwritten note of encouragement and admiration for each mom’s sacrifice, every box was truly special and full of love.
Kicking off the evening we heard from Major General Marsha Anderson who was the first African-American woman to become a major general in the United States Army Reserve. Major General Marsha Anderson spoke to military life as a mom and the struggles that come along with it, motivating every volunteer who was present to make a difference. Not to be outdone, our very own Lindsey Fletcher followed up by singing the Star Spangled Banner which brought tears to the eyes of almost everyone in the room.
Taking pictures, catching up with friends and having fun while doing something amazing and worthwhile, it’s safe to say that every volunteer left with a warm heart. Not a bad thing when in Green Bay, Wisconsin!
