Underscoring its longstanding support for our military, Discover partnered with Operation shower to present 30 expectant military moms and moms-to-be with a drive-through baby shower on Thursday, October 21, 2021. The event took place at Discover Financial Services’ headquarters in Phoenix, Arizona.
All of the moms were the spouses or partners of deployed local military members, or in some cases, are active-duty military members themselves. To ensure the health and safety of the expectant moms, Operation Shower’s typical in-person, elaborately designed shower format has been re-imagined to promote safety guidelines and social distancing protocols.
During the “Go Wild”-themed shower, the moms were treated to a drive-through experience featuring games, surprises, and food provided by an Aioli Gourmet Burgers food truck. In addition, each of the moms was showered with gifts, including Operation Shower’s signature Showers In A Box – featuring an array of unique, high-quality products and gift items for mothers and babies that were donated by companies including Discover, Playtex Baby, and Stella and Dot.
“For military moms who are expecting a baby and whose partners are deployed or soon to be deployed, the impending arrival of a child can be both exciting and stressful. Compounding these challenges are the isolation and uncertainty caused by the coronavirus. For this reason, we felt it was especially important to continue our tradition of showering these moms in a safe manner to let them know how much we appreciate everything they do on behalf of our country,” said Operation Shower Founder and Chief Shower Officer LeAnn Morrissey.
“We were honored to partner with Operation Shower to express our tremendous appreciation to these courageous military moms-to-be, whose immeasurable service and sacrifice deserve to be celebrated,” said Steve Bayans, Vice President of Discover’s Phoenix Operation Center. “Volunteerism is one of the values that help shape Discover’s culture, showering these families with love and gratitude during this unique drive-through experience, which helped to ensure the health and well-being of the moms and their babies.”
