Meet the Moms: Toni

Our May 4th PLAYERS Championship shower in Florida offered us the chance to meet 40 wonderful military moms and moms-to-be. Toni, one of the moms who attended the shower, had her baby girl shortly after the shower, and answered some of our questions about life as a military spouse and her experience with Operation Shower.

Tell us a little bit about yourself. Is this your first pregnancy? Where do you live and what do you do?

This was my 3rd pregnancy! I have two boys, ages 17 and 3, and one little girl, who is almost three weeks old. We are overjoyed with her arrival and our family is now complete.  I live in Elkton, Florida, which is about 5 minutes south of St. Augustine.  I am now a stay at home mom.  I was a Montessori teacher for the last 13 years. I also took two years off when I had my son.

What has being a part of Operation Shower meant to you?

Being a part of Operation Shower was an awesome experience! I felt truly honored to be part of such an amazing event. It’s not just about the fantastic gifts, it was about the kindness and appreciation that everyone bestowed upon us.  At moments it was overwhelming.  I’m so thankful for everyone who volunteered and donated.

What are your words of wisdom or advice for other military moms-to-be?

Just breathe! This too shall pass…. These are my catch phrases that I live by.  Also, remember that you can’t be strong all the time. It’s okay to cry and be sad but you have to remember that tomorrow is a new day and you MUST pick yourself back up and know that you are strong enough to do this!

Anything else you want to share with us about your experience being a military spouse or with Operation Shower?

I would love to be able to volunteer with the next shower that is in this area. This is definitely an experience that I would like to pay forward to other military families. I think it would be so fun to watch their faces as they get to open the shower boxes and receive their gifts.
