For the 9th year, Operation Shower partnered with PepsiCo to host a group baby shower for 33 military moms and moms-to-be. The event was held on Tuesday, September 26th at Weidner Field, located in Colorado Springs, CO.
All of the attending moms are active-duty military members or the spouses or partners of active duty or deployed members of Fort Carson, Peterson Air Force Base, Schriever Air Force Base and other local military bases. Award-winning journalist Brie Groves, who co-hosts KOAA’s News5 Today, will serve as the event’s emcee and guest host, with U.S. Air Force Academy Executive Director Jennifer Block serving as guest speaker.
Presented by PepsiCo with support from the Colorado Springs Switchbacks, the “Sprinkled with Love”-themed event included a catered lunch, raffles and contests with prizes. Guests also received Operation Shower’s signature Showers in a Box – gifts of high-quality products for mothers and babies that have been donated by generous companies including PepsiCo, Delta Children, Phil Long Dealerships, Mud Pie and Douglas Toys. Beyond the array of tangible items the moms received, the moms will have the opportunity to share camaraderie and meet other women who are also experiencing motherhood.
“For women who are expecting a baby and whose partners are deployed, and especially for expectant moms who are active duty themselves, the impending arrival of a child can be both exciting and stressful,” said Operation Shower Founder and Chief Shower Officer LeAnn Morrissey. “Operation Shower was created to provide these courageous women with love, support, and an opportunity to celebrate this wonderful milestone together.”
