All Star Gathering
BOSTON, MA – Kelli Pedroia, wife of Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia, hosted 24 Boston-area military moms-to-be at Fenway Park on Thursday, June 29 and brought in a star-studded event. It was done in partnership with Operation Shower, an organization that provides baby showers for the spouses of deployed or seriously injured members of the military.
The event, supported by the Red Sox Foundation and the Pedroia Platoon, took place from noon to 2 p.m. in the Dell EMC Club at Fenway Park, and is the second year Pedroia has partnered with Operation Shower to organize the special luncheon for wives of military members. Local radio personality, and daughter of a veteran, Sue Brady Hartigan emceed the luncheon provided by Red Sox concessionaire Aramark.
All Star Baby Shower
“We all feel a shared duty to ensure that these women whose husbands are deployed feel cared for, loved, and celebrated as they await the arrival of their child,” said Pedroia. “I met so many great women last year when we hosted the first Operation Shower in Massachusetts, and I’m excited to bring this important event back for the second year in a row.”
Beautifully designed baseball graphics by Tania Fischer Design set the stage for the shower. The event featured raffle prizes and the distribution of Operation Shower’s signature “Showers in a Box,” which includes baby items generously donated by Jordan’s Furniture, Tempur-Pedic, New Balance, and many other generous companies. The moms at this event were treated to special gifts in the form of a curated gift basket from the Red Sox wives and ladies of Pedroia Platoon! Some of their favorite things they used with their own little ones were shared with each mom.
Since 2014, the Pedroia’s have focused their charitable efforts on members of the military and their families through their Pedroia’s Platoon program, which provides Red Sox tickets and a VIP experience at Fenway Park to military members who have demonstrated outstanding leadership. Their efforts were expanded in 2015 to include an annual Heroes at Home initiative that provides a complimentary day of pampering to 15 service women and spouses of military service members each year.
This shower was certainly a hit and you may see more photos of the day here!
