Honk, honk, beep, beep…precious cargo coming through!
On June 23, 2020 we hosted our first ever Drive-Through baby shower in collaboration with the Travelers Championship via the generosity of presenting sponsor, ConnectiCare®. We honored 39 new military moms and moms-to be, caravan style at the United States Navy Submarine Force Library & Museum on the Thames River in Groton.
Our annual shower with the Travelers Championship, ConnectiCare, Travelers and Birdies for the Brave is such a highlight and we knew that this formidable team was not going to let 2020 break that tradition! Together, we created a unique way to celebrate the expectant moms while ensuring their health and safety during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Since 2014, ConnectiCare has been committed to bringing Operation Shower events to expectant moms. Even during these uncertain times, we remain committed to finding a safe way to host the event,” said ConnectiCare President Eric Galvin. “Their service and sacrifice deserve to be recognized, and ConnectiCare is proud to be celebrating them in such an innovative way during the COVID-19 pandemic.”
During the event, all of the moms were showered with gifts – including Operation Shower’s signature “Showers In A Box.” This is where having a big trunk comes in handy, as each mom also received an array of unique, high-quality products and gift items for mothers and babies that were donated by companies including ConnectiCare, Travelers, EvenFlo, Wubbanub and Playtex.
Cheering volunteers lined the parking lot to congratulate and thank the moms for their service and our DJ from Boppers Events helped make it a party. And, it wouldn’t be Operation Shower without some cute decor touches. Amazing Balloon Decor outdid themselves, once again, with “stoplight” balloons and other fun arrangements.
We had a great afternoon and it was SO good to see moms in person again…even from a distance in masks! You could still feel and hear that Operation Shower joy from everyone involved. The shower this year may have looked different, but it was a great day and one we, and the moms, will never forget!
“The amount of love and support I received from everyone even though it was a drive-thru shower. I had just recently moved to CT from VA a few days prior to live with my husband who is in the Navy. I cried after the shower because I was so appreciative and felt so loved from everyone who attended. I am forever grateful for what my family and I received.” – Emma, Drive-Through Shower Recipient
