Through the generosity of the USS Harry S. Truman Foundation, Operation Shower showered 40 awesome USS Truman moms and moms-to-be whose spouses or partners are currently deployed. Making every mom feel special and seen was the goal of the day! With everything from a catered lunch to games and prizes to a one of a kind specialty cake, each and every mom left with a car full of gifts and a smile on her face.
“We are honored to partner with Operation Shower to express our immeasurable appreciation to these courageous military moms-to-be for their service and sacrifice on behalf of our country,” said Al Gorthy, president of the Harry S. TRUMAN FOUNDATION, Captain, USN Retired. “We are delighted to help spread joy, love and gratitude to these extraordinary women for everything they do at home or on the front lines to keep America safe and free.”
The day was hosted by WTKR reporter Angela Bohon, who guided the moms through the day’s activities and even gave some encouraging words as a former Navy spouse herself. And to keep things fun and inspirational, third commanding officer of the USS Truman and retired Admiral of the Navy, Mike Groothausen spoke about how important support from home is and how much that is due to spouses keeping things going.
Special thanks to all of the volunteers who helped with making sure the shower looked picture perfect and for pitching in and making all the moms feel like they were the star of the day!
