In collaboration with the PGA TOUR’s The Honda Classic and through the generosity of Milan Homes, Operation Shower hosted a virtual baby shower in honor of 25 military moms-to-be from Florida bases. To ensure the health and safety of the expectant moms, during the COVID-19 pandemic, this shower was held via Zoom, where moms could join the call from the comfort of their own homes.
Before the event began, each guest of honor received a party box, filled with festive decorations and party elements that matched the shower theme, as well as a yummy treat from The Princess Baker. Additionally, moms received our signature “Shower in a Box which contained an assortment of unique and high-quality items for mom and baby. Donors such as Pratt & Whitney, Natural Life, the Nicklaus Foundation, and Noodle & Boo contributed to the Shower in a Box to help make the Shower in a Box extra special! Throughout the event, moms were surprised with several larger gifts including an assortment of health and wellness products from Garden of Life, a Playtex Diaper Genie, and lovely jewelry from Stella & Dot.
During the “Welcome To The World” – themed event, moms heard from guest speakers, played games, and were showered with additional gifts and necessities. We were thrilled to have Rylan Media’s Lynn Smith, whose 20-year news media career included serving as an anchor on NBC News, MSNBC, and CNN Headline News, as our guest host.
“We’re excited to shower this courageous moms-to-be with gratitude as part of our longstanding support for military families,” said The Honda Classic Executive Director Ken Kennerly. “This special shower is an outstanding opportunity to show our appreciation for everything they do behind the scenes or on the front lines in service to our country; and given the current global health environment, we think a virtual celebration is a perfect way to celebrate these amazing women while ensuring the health and well-being of the moms and babies.”
After the shower, we sent a survey to our moms to see what they thought of the event. We loved hearing from moms like Maggie Y. who said that the most meaningful part of the event for her was “the joyful connection with other military moms.” Connection is one of the pillars of the work we do at Operation Shower and we are always happy to hear that our events have helped to foster new connections among military families.
